Let me let you guys in on a little something. We don’t like to waste food or beverages. And sometimes we make too much coffee. More coffee than we can actually consume. That’s hard to imagine, right? Sometimes your eyes are just bigger than your morning cup(s) of coffee. It happens.
So as not to waste, we’ve come up with this nifty little trick. I’m not sure where we heard about it but it’s genius. All you do is just pour your leftover coffee into ice cube trays and freeze them. Once they’re good and frozen, sit the trays out for 2 or 3 minutes and then simply take them out of the trays and transfer the cubes to a freezer safe zip-top bag. Then you can use them for one of two things:
#1 – Iced coffee. This is awesome because your coffee doesn’t get watered down by the ice. Simply make your iced coffee as you normally would and then add coffee ice cubes.
#2 – (Which is what this post is about) Milky coffee ice cube beverage! That’s not a very appealing or clever name but hey, you know. Whatever. This drink makes for a perfect afternoon treat! It’s so milky that you hardly need any sugar and it won’t get you all hyped up on caffeine late in the day.
So here’s what you do. This is hardly a recipe but more of a tutorial.
Fill a cup with coffee ice cubes. Pour milk over cubes. Wait a few minutes until the cubes get a little melty and enjoy.
If you do want it a little sweeter, I like to add either a simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water boiled until sugar is dissolved) or some pure maple syrup to achieve my desired sweetness. Play around with it. It’s your afternoon treat. You deserve it!
